Long COVID: Pathophysiology – epidemiology and patient needs [KCE 2021]

The Belgian Health Care Knowledge Centre (KCE) provides an extensive overview of the current literature on the epidemiology and the pathophysiological mechanisms of Long COVID, also known as Post COVID-19 condition. In addition, Castanares-Zapatero and colleagues conducted an online survey among 1395 persons with Long COVID symptoms to identify unmet needs of Belgian Long COVID patients. The report further builds on qualitative investigations providing more insights into the lived experiences and perceptions of 33 interviewed patients and 101 participants in an online forum. The last chapter is dedicated to the available interventions and health care programs that may (in part) fulfill the identified needs.

A synthesis of the report is available in English, Dutch and French.

The full scientific report in English is available via https://kce.fgov.be/en/long-covid-pathophysiology-%E2%80%93-epidemiology-and-patient-needs.
