The longer-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on wellbeing of older adults [De Pue et al. 2023]

De Pue and colleagues investigated the longer-term impact of the pandemic on wellbeing and subjective cognitive functioning among older adults in Flanders. 

 Scientific reports published an investigation into the longer-term impact of the pandemic on wellbeing and subjective cognitive functioning among older adults in Flanders. De Pue and colleagues conducted an online survey among Flemish adults aged 65 or older. A total of 371 persons participated in three measurement moments: in May–June 2020; a second in June–July 2020 and a third in December 2020. 

The study concludes that the pandemic had a long-term impact on the cognitive functioning and wellbeing of older adults. Wellbeing fluctuated with the severity of the pandemic whereas results for self-reported cognitive functioning were mixed. Persons experiencing depressive and anxiety symptoms were at increased risk for lower wellbeing and cognitive functioning;
