The Journal of Nursing Management published a research article by Khan, Bruyndeel and Smith on burn-out risk among Belgian nurses during the first COVID-wave. Data were collected among 4552 French-speaking nurses through an online survey. 

Overall, the results show that 70% of the study population was at high risk of burnout during the first COVID-wave. The two main risk factors of burnout were lacking adequate personal protective equipment for COVID-19 and having an increased workload during the pandemic. Having a decreased workload during the pandemic was also associated with a significant risk of burnout. Nurses working in certain services such as ICU, hospital emergency services and nursing homes were also at greater risk of burnout.
