COVID-19 wave in Belgium during the Fall of 2020 and higher education [Natalia et al. 2022]

PLoS ONE published a research article by Natalia and colleagues on the Fall 2020 COVID-19 wave and the association with higher education.

Individual-level data of confirmed COVID-19 cases are investigated by age group, sex, and three municipal-level indicators: mean income, population density and ratio of higher education students per 100 inhabitants in the municipality. The Bayesian spatial Poisson models show a signifiant association between the COVID-19 incidence among younger age groups and the size of the higher education student population in the area. The spatio-temporal results indicate that the Fall wave of 2020 started among young adults and that infection spread to the elderly population.
